The 2017 Finnish Design Exhibition is being held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the independence of Finland, the Land of Forests and Lakes. The exhibition will provide a look back on the elements of the country’s design aesthetic that has become beloved by many.

In Finland, where the climate is intense with the midnight sun in summer and extreme cold in winter, many designers use “harmony between nature and people” as a source of creativity. This gave rise to a simple and bright style which is seen in everyday items that can be used and beloved for a long time. This exhibition divides Finnish design into six segments to introduce the numerous elegant styles, from ornament craftsmanship from before the country’s independence through the period of maturity after independence, and all the way to the present, focusing on the notable designers of each period and the businesses that supported them.

Finnish design reflects the harsh northern European climate and the spirit of the people who live there, and has earned praise from around the world. Come enjoy the world of Finnish design, the noblest of northern European styles which continues to be presence in the lives of many people.
