This exhibition space, in view of Hiyoriyama, encourages a heightened awareness of staying safe from a tsunami and taking action to prepare for a future emergency situation.

The activities of storytelling groups all around Miyagi are introduced and local information is presented on disaster ruins, museums, and memorial facilities.
Ishinomaki Minamihama Tsunami Memorial Park

A spacious circular area allows visitors to gather and pray in every direction for those who lost their lives in the natural disaster.

This place within the memorial park is for prayer and remembrance of the town’s history which includes Zenkaidaike pond and the former Nakamachi-dori street.
360°VIEW (fixed camera) / 3rd Ganbaro Ishinomaki Signboard (“Hang in there, Ishinomaki!”)
The signboard and 3.11 Memorial Hall Minamihama Tsunagu-kan nearby on the park grounds are part of remembrance and educational efforts, along with tree planting. Many organizations have come together to plan and manage activities for steady efforts going forward.
360°VIEW (fixed camera) / Shoninbori (Canal)
The Shoninbori canal has existed since the Edo Period supporting human activity in the area. The canal had been covered and used as a walking/cycling path since the year 2000. When creating the new park, the waterway was restored to its original form as a remembrance of the town’s history.

The entire park can be seen, as well as the river and sea, from this spot—an artificial hill 10 meters above sea level.

The first signboard once stood here in the aftermath of the tsunami, bringing courage to many people. As the roads were rebuilt, the signboard was moved to a central location for civic activity. The foundation of a home/store is preserved here with the message painted on the road, “We will recover!”
360°VIEW (fixed camera) / Former Kadonowaki Nursery School
This is the site of a local nursery school devastated by the tsunami. The foundation of the building and the kiddie pool have been preserved.
360°VIEW (fixed camera) / Location of former Minamihama-cho Kaikan community center
This is the site of a community center destroyed by the tsunami. Before the disaster, the center was used as a meeting place by residents of the 2-chome and 3-chome areas.
360°VIEW (fixed camera) / Senkutsu Shicchi (Wetlands)
This spot is where the tsunami “scoured” the land beneath a concrete building, causing it to sink, converting the land back to wetlands. The preserved foundation tells of the terrifying power of the tsunami.

This cenotaph was built to commemorate the victims of the disaster in Ishinomaki City and to preserve the memory of the tsunami for future generations. It honors all who lost their lives in Ishinomaki City with their names engraved in stone.
360°VIEW (fixed camera) / Great East Japan Earthquake Monument (Hiyori Kindergarten Cenotaph)
Even as a tsunami warning was resounding through the town after the earthquake, five children between the ages of 4 and 6 were put on a bus that got engulfed in the tsunami and fire and died at this spot. In the care of the school, the children should have been safe. What happened? This cenotaph enshrines the memory of those five children whose lives were cut short.
