Exhibition Room 2

Takahashi Eikichi (1911-1942) is a sculptor born in Ishinomaki city.
A lot of his wooden sculpture had been collected in Ishinomaki Cultural Center, which was seriously damaged by the earthquake and tsunami in 11th March 2011.
The works exhibited (including his masterpiece “Sound of Wave”) were fortunately kept unharmed, but ones kept in the storage room were flooded in seawater. Now the restoration of them is being executed, while The Miyagi Museum of Art is keeping a part of them until another facility for exhibition and storage is rebuilt in Ishinomaki.
This exhibition is first time for us to show his works after the earthquake.
