Toyota Motor Tohoku Co., Ltd is an auto parts manufacturing company with 100% investment from Toyota Motor Corporation. The company was located in Miyagi as a means of maintaining appropriate distances from Aichi, Hokkaido and the Kyushu region around which Toyota'a car assembly plants or group of companies are concentrated.

Until it located to Miyagi, Toyota had concerns over the effect that heavy snowfall might have on staff commute or on the distribution of products. However, the company has come to understand that since Miyagi is located on the Pacific Ocean side of Japan, it receives little snowfall. When it does get snow, express ways are thoroughly cleared. Snowfall poses absolutely no problem.

Additionally, typhoons do not affect Miyagi as much as they affect Western Japan, so the company can expect stability in its operations and in the shipment of its products.  Product distribution is mainly conducted by a combination of express way and port services.  The process is smooth either way.

Miyagi Prefecture was chosen for location because of its proximity to an area with urban functions, good transportation access, the availability of high quality human resources and because we could obtain a large site.

In relation to employees, there is infrastructure to support a good lifestyle; delicious food and lots of nature around, among other things. These factors are important, not only for the workers, but also for their families. Basically, we consider it to be a comfortable environment in which to live. Miyagi prefecture is home to the largest city in the Tohoku region, Sendai. Sendai is attractive because it is quite an inexpensive city, although it has a high cultural level. We believe the city maintains a good balance between urbanisation and nature.

Two years ago, the company built a second factory on our site and started manufacturing torque converters. We believe that there is room for even further expansion of the business. From this point on, we aim at achieving autonomy and at expanding our business in Miyagi. We would like to make our contribution to the Tohoku region by placing a very high value on being in friendly rivalry with and cooperation with companies in the region and establishing networks for automobile-related industries in the region.
