The Prefectural flower of Miyagi is the bush clover blossom (Miyaginohagi) and the symbol stands for the Japanese kana letter "- mi" that looks very much like the symbol.

Miyaginohagi

Bush clovers (miyaginohagi) bloom in autumn and are often written about in Japanese poems. The beautiful blossoms are purplish red or white. ( Selection : March 22, 1958. )


Prefectural Tree : Zelkova (Keyaki)

Zelkova (Keyaki)

Jozenji Boulevard in Sendai is lined with zelkova trees. In winter the trees are decorated for the Star Pageant and in late summer, the trees keep music lovers cool while they listen to the Jazz Festival. ( Designation:Sptember 30,1966. )


Prefectural Bird : The wild goose (Gan)

The wild goose (Gan)

There are more colorful wild geese found in Miyagi than in any other prefecture in Japan. They are admired and protected at the national nature preserve. Izunuma Marsh. ( Designation : July 30,1965. )


Prefectural Animal : The deer (Shika)

The deer (Shika)

Japanese deer can be spotted on Mt. Kinka and all over the Oshika Peninsula. Its graceful and serene nature makes it a favorite among children and adults alike. ( Designation:July 30,1965. )
